Group Psychotherapy
Group psychotherapy can be a transformative modality of treatment. At City Behavioral Health, we provide a full range of group psychotherapy options approaching group treatment from both a behavioral lens and a relational perspective.
All groups meet once weekly. Clients may work with an outside therapist and engage in group at City Behavioral Health. Participation in any group at CBH is determined on a case by case basis after an initial assessment.
Dialectical Behavior Therapy Skills Group
Meets: Tuesdays at 6 PM
or Wednesdays at 10:30 AM
DBT Skills Group is one of the four components of comprehensive DBT. It is a structured form of group therapy wherein participants acquire practical skills in the following four areas: Mindfulness, Interpersonal Effectiveness, Distress Tolerance and Emotion Regulation. You do not have to be engaged in comprehensive DBT to benefit from a DBT Skills Group. A skills group can be added to one’s treatment plan while they continue to work toward specific treatment goals.
Late Adolescent DBT Skills Group
Meets: Mondays at 4:45 PM
This DBT Skills group is specific for individuals 16-18 years of age. It follows the full DBT Skills curriculum and integrates family involvement on an individual basis. Please inquire for more details.
DBT Skills Graduate Group Intensive Workshop
Meets: Once monthly, the first Saturday of each month from 10 AM-12 PM
This intensive monthly workshop is for those individuals who have completed at least one cycle of the full DBT Skills curriculum. The aim is to keep one’s skills sharp while allowing for continued development and support in how to handle particularly challenging situations skillfully.
Interpersonal Psychotherapy Group for Individuals in Stable Recovery from Addiction
Meets: Thursdays at 6 PM
This group runs in a process group format wherein participants get to know one another in a safe and supportive environment. Through this platform, we explore an array of issues that arise for those who have a history of addiction [substance or behavioral].
Men’s Mental Health Group
Meets: Mondays at 6:30 PM
This group runs in a process group form and provides a safe and supportive space for men in varying stages of addiction recovery to process any issue with an emphasis on maintaining healthy relationships within a context of living with ongoing mental health and substance related struggles.
Women’s Mental Health Group
Meets: Wednesdays at 7:30 PM
This is a general support group for women to process any issue in a safe and supportive environment. This group runs in a process group format with an emphasis on helping participants navigate living with a history of trauma and/or disordered eating.
All Gender Mental Health Process Group
Meets: Thursdays at 4 PM
This gender-inclusive group runs in a process group format and aims to help individuals effectively navigate daily interpersonal challenges within the context of living with ongoing mental health struggles.
Gender Inclusive Young Adult Mental Health Process Group
Meets: Thursdays at 4 PM
This group is in a process group format and aims to provide a safe and supportive space for young adults to process challenges surrounding coping with mental health struggles the context of gender identity, sexual orientation, relationships and life transitions.
Exploring Recovery Group
Meets: Wednesdays at 5 PM
This group was developed in response to a need for a space for individuals to explore their relationship to substances and to what recovery means to them. This group is in a process group format and draws heavily from principles of motivational interviewing to help individuals better understand their goals around abstinence and ongoing substance use.
Relapse Prevention Skills Group
Meets: Thursdays at 5 PM
This group is a curriculum based skills group designed by Lindsay Chester, LCSW that incorporates DBT Skills, CBT principles and more general relapse prevention materials. The goal of the group is to challenge clients to think critically about what may be getting in the way of obtaining and maintaining abstinence from substances. The group aims to provide clients with a variety of behaviorally based skills to access in challenging moments.
Family Workshop
Meets four times annually in January, March, June, and October [inquire for dates and details].
This workshop is part supportive process and part DBT skill acquisition. Anyone who has a loved one who has struggled with substances is welcome to attend.
